About the Popular Korean Lash Lift Technique: A Healthier Technique for Lash Lifts

What is a Korean Lash Lift?

A Korean lash lift is a series of glueless techniques that originates in South Korea. Koreans have developed these techniques to provide those with downturned, thick, and stubborn lashes a guaranteed lift catered to their eye shape.

Estheticians in the West have begun adopting this technique, as it has begun to gain recognition and popularity as a healthier and easier method for lifting stubborn lashes.

There are different variations of Korean lash lifts being taught, and I will label them as:

  • The glueless method (does not use balm or glue)

  • The balm method

  • The downturned method

Each of these methods is taught in my online Korean lash lift course, found here

What makes the Korean lash lift healthier?

Korean lash lifts are healthier than traditional lash lifts because of the careful processing times and extra nourishing steps.

Careful Processing Times

In the Korean lash lift methods, the softening of the lashes is not as simple as following the recommended times listed on the sachet. While these times are helpful, it is important to understand that every lash will soften at different rates of time. This depends on the health of their current lashes, their lash porosity, and how thick or thin their lashes are. Depending on the processing time alone is what results in an unsatisfactory lift: lashes that don’t look lifted at all and lashes that appear to be frizzy and crunchy (otherwise known as underprocessed or overprocessed lash lifts).

There is a specific process for the artist to see when and which lashes are done processing, and which need to be processed for a longer period. This ensures a 100% lift without compromising the health of some lashes that may soften faster than others.

This is different from the traditional “bend test,” a method where the artist picks out a single lash from the rod to see how softened the lash is. While this is effective in determining the softening state for the individual lash, this is ineffective for determining the softening state for the entire lash line.

Extra Nourishing Steps

Traditional lash lift methods follow a three-step process: soften, oxidize (or neutralize), and nourish. The third step is typically going to be the only step when this method nourishes the lash, as it is almost treated like a leave-in conditioner.

While this helps nourish the lashes, the Korean lash lift offers two additional steps to protect the lashes:

The Korean lash lift applies a nourishing cream to the lashes after the softening state, after the neutralizing state (similar to the traditional method), and the lashes are typically styled with a protective and nourishing coating essence (a hydrating and protecting serum for the lashes).

The coating essence not only contains hydrating and strengthening nutrients for the eyelashes, but it also helps maintain the shape and direction of the lash lift after your client leaves your chair. If the client chooses to purchase the coating essence to take home, the essence protects the lashes from external damage and potential breakage.
